[edit] Introduction
Protected pages are pages that only certain people can edit. Typically, only administrators can edit protected pages. However, some pages can be protected from anonymous users, meaning that anyone who is logged in can edit them.
When non-administrators view pages that are protected, they see an "edit" tab at the top of the page instead of a "view source" tab. Administrators see an "edit" tab as normal, but are warned that the page is a protected page when editing the page.
[edit] Protecting Pages
Administrators can protect and unprotect pages by using the "Protect" and "Unprotect" tabs visible to them when they are logged in. See Help:Administration#Protection for details. Pages should only be protected when there is a need to keep the page unchanged by typical users (e.g., Privacy policy).
[edit] Protecting Images
Protecting an image is mostly the same as protecting a page. When the protect tab is clicked on the image description page, both the page and the image are protected so that unauthorized individuals cannot revert the image to an earlier version or replace it.
