Oncology I DO NOT RECOMMEND a person with GIST see this doctor.
It is important for people in this area of CA to find a good oncologist and there is an oncologist that I dealt with in Modesto who is not worthy of a recommendation. My local doctor sent me to him and I found that this oncologist did not know much about GIST and was difficult to work with and impossible to understand because of his thick accent. He did not answer any of my questions and when he did answer he spoke to my husband.
He was very reluctant to have me get a second opinion and when he did agree, he wanted me to go to someone other than the GIST specialist that I had chosen after my own information gathering.
At one point he did say that he believed that GIST should not be classified as a type of cancer. I asked about the mitotic rate and he said it did not have a mitotic rate. It appeared to me that he did not do his homework and took a “hands-off” approach.
