Report on April meeting:

Hello Everyone,

We had a great turnout. There were 50 people that registered for it and 48 showed up. The ones that didn't were sick.

For the speakers we had:

Joel Picus M.D., an oncologist at Siteman Cancer Center, discussed GIST in further detail as far as origination, treatment options, exon mutations and clinical trials. He had some great pictures to help everyone understand a little better.

William Hawkins M.D., a surgeon at Washington University, discussed when the best time is to surgically remove GIST and how that coincides with treatment plans. He also showed some great pictures as well as video of removing a tumor to help explain what he meant.

Laura Herr, an oncology nutritionist for a wellness center in Illinois. She discussed ways to deal with side effects using food and offered some tips and advice.

Teresa Deshields Ph.D., a psychologist at Washington University. She went over different ways to help cope with your feelings and emotions concerning GIST and then we had a break-out session where caregivers and patients were in separate rooms to discuss further.
