Tagged Red Blood Cells

This test was used to characterize a lesion on my liver There is lot of stuff on the net about it:

Patient Preparation: No preparation is required. No barium X-ray procedures on the same day as this exam. Total time for this study is 2-3 hours.

What is involved:

I.V. access for drawing blood and reinjection. A small amount of blood will be drawn. The Red blood cells are tagged with Tc-99m. The tagged RBC's are re-injected into the patient. Tomographic (3D) images of the liver are obtained. One hour after the completion of the first 3D images, the second 3D images of the liver are obtained. The patient must lie flat and very still during imaging.
